Overview

A beautiful palace, carefully modernized and fully accessible, with helpful staff who anticipate the wheelchair user's needs. Great paintings by Monet, Nolde, Beckmann, Chagall and many more.

Transport & Parking

4

Can't comment on the parking. the nearby Opernring is served by many trams. Karlsplatz U bahn station (fully accesible) is nearby. Follow signs saying "Oper" and you will find a lift that brings you up on the pavement at one corner of the Opera House. Go across the front of the Opera House and turn right down the side of the buikding. The Albertina is on the left, across the road.

Access

5

Don't be put off by the monumental outside staircase. There is a lift which takes you up onto the terrace where the main entrance and ticket office are. Once inside (and we got concessionary tickets at wheelchair user and accompanist) a capacious life gives access to all main levels. Once in the art gallery section, don't worry about the steps which link some of the rooms - there are platform lifts, some hidden. We didn't need to ask the attendants - they were very proactive in helping us to use the platform lifts.

Toilets

4.5

We used the one on Floor 1 - it took a bit if finding but was reasonably spacious and well-equipped. There is another accessible toilet in the entrance hall.

Staff

5

They could not have been more helpful - pleasant and proactive.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

There is a collection of graphic art, and you can also visit the staterooms of the palace. The website says that these areas are accessible but we didn't go there There is a cafe off the main entrance, which we didn't try, though it appeared to be fully accessible.

Photos

The main entrance from the terrace. The lift which brings you up to the terrace is just out of view to the right.
