Overview
Albert Hall Manchester is a fantastic venue which used to be a church. It still has its beautiful features - stain glass windows, pillars and high moulded ceilings. Great wheelchair accessible music venue.
Transport & Parking
There is no parking at the venue but we managed to find nearby onstreet parking and displayed our blue badge. It was a few minutes walk to the venue.
Access
The website has a great section on accessibility (including the stair climber) and the communication via email with the access coordinator was excellent. The accessible entrance is around the back of the building and although it has steps, its not a problem as they use a stair climber which can accommodate powered wheelchairs up to 200kg. The staff (Tom and Clare) operating the stair climber were amazing and super friendly, making sure they explained everything to me and ensured I was comfortable at all times. The stair climber took about 20 mins to get to the top of the stairs which is up a few floors. It didn't feel like 20 mins though. Once at the top (second floor), we entered the accessible area and another staff member in charge of this area welcomed us and ensured we got a good spot. She explained everything to us and was always close by if we needed anything. Very attentive and aware of everything going on around us. There was also a drinks runner for anyone in the accessible area because the bar was downstairs. Whatever drink you wanted, the runner would go and get it for you. You just give him the money. We were also asked if we wanted any merch which was also downstairs. The staff (Em) took photos of the merch on her phone so I could see what was there to help me choose. I thought this was great and I appreciated it so much.
Toilets
The accessible toilet was also great and much better than I expected for a listed building. It was larger with a good amount of space to move around. It had the standard accessible features - grab rails, emergency cord and it was RADAR locked. There were also personal touches including toiletries like deodorant, hand cream and female sanitary products placed inside a box. I took half a star off because the toilet is located on the other side of the accessible area, which can't be helped because of how old the building etc.
Staff
I can't say enough about how good the staff are at this venue. They were all super friendly, helpful, attentive and passionate about accessibility. It was great to attend this venue and feel valued from people who genuinely care and want to make accessibility equal for everyone.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Overall, Albert Hall Manchester is a brilliant venue with great disabled access. Excellent staff who are friendly and disability aware. The stair climber is great and enables powered wheelchair users to enjoy shows at this listed building. I will 100% visit this amazing venue again.
