Overview
Buchan Development Partnership has adapted a caravan at the Aden Caravan Park in Mintlaw to allow wheelchair users to have a break. The rooms and access to the caravan have been designed for both electric and manual wheelchairs. The Aden Caravan Park is set within beautiful site and has all the facilities you would expect. The site has an on-site warden with extensive care experience with people with physical disabilities and people with learning disabilities (though it should be noted the site does not provide any care. The caravan itself has two bedrooms (two single beds in each), a lowered kitchen, a spacious living room and wet room which includes a shower chair and grab rails. The larger bedroom is suitable for wheelchair users whilst the smaller bedroom might be challenging as there wouldn't be much room to turn a wheelchair. Access to the caravan is via a widened ramp and the doors have widened.
Transport & Parking
There was parking right at the door and public transport passes close by.
Access
Access to the caravan is via a widened ramp which was designed for electric wheelchairs. The ramp isn't too steep so a self-propelling wheelchair user should manage the ramp.
Toilets
There is a wetroom in the caravan with grab rails and lowered sink.
Staff
The on site-warden used to work in day centres and for Cornerstone so has extensive experience of working with people and will be onsite to help in emergences. The caravan site itself does not provide care which might be available from local agencies.
