Amazing visit to see the Orangutans!

Overview

This place is incredible! Set up in the 60's to rehabilitate orphan orang-utans, it is situated in a tropical rainforest. There is a step free wooden walkway that has been constructed so that visitors can access the feeding platform and be immersed in the whole experience. Please note however that this is a tropical rainforest! So while they have made efforts to have level access there are a few slopes to navigate and you should think of this more as an energetic walk rather than a relaxing stroll!

Transport & Parking

We got a taxi there and the driver was able to drop us at the entrance and wait for us in the car park. I'm not sure what (if any) public transport options there are.

Access

Great! Considering that this is in a tropical rainforest the access is good. The entrance features a building with the shop and ticket office that has a (fairly narrow) ramp to navigate. There is also step free access to the cafe. Then the rest of the experience features a constructed wooden walkway. This is step free but does have regular slopes so you need to be feeling energetic! Be prepared for a bumpy ride too due to the construction of the walkway in some places. The main viewing platform is about 10-15 mins from the entrance and from here you can get a great view of the feeding platform where the orang-utans visit. Top tip - it gets very busy so get there at least 15mins before feeding time so you can get a good spot!

Pleased to see ramped access to the loo building and then even more delighted to see an accessible loo within the main ladies loo. The layout might not suit everyone so check out the photo.

Staff

Really passionate about what they are doing. All the staff that we met were helpful and friendly and keen to ensure visitors have the best time possible.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

There are further jungle trails that are signposted although we were told that these were more of a 'jungle trekking' experience. Also - be aware that you might not see any orang-utans! This is not a zoo this is a rehabilitation centre in the middle of a rainforest so they don't appear on demand and there are signs at the entrance reminding you of this.
