We've distributed 125,000 red cord cards!

We're thrilled to say that we've distributed 125,000 red cord cards! That means 125,000 accessible toilets have been made safer through our work and we couldn't have done it without the support and help of our Euan's Guide community of volunteers.

For over 14 million disabled people in the UK, a red cord in an accessible toilet is their call for help in an emergency.

In our last Access Survey, we asked ‘How often do you see a red emergency cord that is potentially dangerous in an accessible bathroom?’

This could include not having an emergency cord, or having a cord that has been cut too short, tied up or put out of the way so that it could not be reached by someone lying on the ground. With 11% of respondents saying they have had to use the emergency cord, it is worrying that 14% of our survey said they see a potentially dangerous cord a few times a month and 23% saying they see it a few times a year.

We've reached an incredible amount of accessible toilets so far, but we need to continue our Safer Toilets work to tackle this problem with our Red Cord Cards so that people understand why it's important to untie the cords and let them hang free.
