The big screen outdoors...

Have you heard the rumours? June is set to have incredible weather this year! That’s handy, because there are plenty of outdoor events happening this month and beyond. Check out these edge of your picnic blanket outdoor movie screenings and theatre events popping up around the country this summer.

Kew the Movies

In August and September, you can attend Kew the Movies at 5 star rated Kew Royal Botanic Gardens in Richmond. On September 8th catch the late David Bowie on screen in ‘Labyrinth’ at 7.45pm and sing along to all of the movie’s best songs. One reviewer loved Kew Gardens saying, ‘they have a Changing Places toilet near their carpark gate entrance at the back of the park’. Read the full review >>

Film4 Summer Screen

Between August 4-17 you can get tickets to Film4 Summer Screen in The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court in Somerset House. There will also be a film poster exhibition and ‘Behind the Screen’ talks happening before film screenings. You’ll be able to catch ‘Things to Come’ on the opening night at this 4 star rated venue. One reviewer enjoyed visiting Somerset House but said that ‘access into the courtyard requires going across some cobbles’. Read review >>

Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre

Of course, if you’d rather see the drama on stage instead of on screen, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre is ‘the oldest, professional, permanent outdoor theatre in Britain.’ Shakespeare’s ‘Henry V’ will be running from 17 June – 9 July, and the performance on 1 July will be captioned. The theatre is listed on Euan’s Guide saying there are ‘spaces in the auditorium for wheelchair users and their companions can be booked in advance with the Open Air Theatre Box Office.’ Find out more >>

Film Fest in the City

St Andrew Square in Edinburgh will be hosting a series of free film screenings from 10-12 June including ‘Pitch Perfect’ and ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’! During the Fringe festivals, reviewers gave St Andrew Square 4 stars saying, ‘members of my group were able to arrive by tram and you couldn’t be any closer to the tram stop if you tried.’ Read review >>

Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

For more films in Edinburgh, The Botanics will be screening ‘Jurassic Park’ in front of audiences among the trees on 4 September! You can enjoy the sounds of T-Rex in this leafy green garden as the sun begins to set. One reviewer gave The Botanics 5 stars saying, ‘there were tarmac paths throughout the grounds and they were well maintained and easy to follow – even in the dark!’ Read the full review >>

Lincoln Castle

4.5 star rated Lincoln Castle has been described as having ‘excellent access for powerchair users’ and will be showing three classic films this September. Holkham Hall

Holkham Hall in Wells-next-the-Sea is having an open air cinema weekend in July showing ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Dirty Dancing’. You can enjoy watching these classics on summery evenings in the Walled Garden of the venue which has been rated 4 stars by one reviewer who said, ‘Blue Badge holders are able to park right at the entrance to the house’. The garden is all on one level, however there are some shingle pathways on route to the screenings. Read review >>
