Safer Toilets receives highly commended at the Disability Power 100 awards

Last night our CEO Antonia attended the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 awards in London! Antonia met our Ambassador Chloe, along with loads of brilliant people from the disabled community who were being recognised by the Shaw Trust. The Disability Power 100 is a celebration for those who are leaders in their field and are a catalyst for positive impact. Each year the awards create a space for disabled people to celebrate and enjoy a night of purple-carpet glam, powerful stories, and incredible achievement in person and online.

Antonia was there to give a tribute to our founder, Euan, who sadly passed away in August after a long fight with Motor Neuron Disease, aged 50. Euan set up our small but mighty charity with his sister Kiki in 2013 after they found disabled access information to be virtually non-existent, causing a lot of unnecessary stress when making plans to go out. Ten years later, and Euan’s Guide is proud to be a trusted source of disabled access information, making tens of thousands of accessible toilets safer, and amplifying the voices of disabled people through our annual Access Survey.

We’re so proud of Euan and all he achieved, not only with Euan’s Guide but with his other projects, including the Euan MacDonald Centre for MND Research at the University of Edinburgh, and Speak:Unique.

The evening was also a celebration for us as a team; we learned that our Safer Toilets campaign received highly commended in the campaigns category! Of course, this couldn’t have come at a better time – yesterday was World Toilet Day and we announced that we’ve made 150,000 accessible toilets safer with our Safer Toilets campaign and Red Cord Cards. We’re so thrilled to be recognised by the Power 100 judges and we want to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers and Toilet Warriors who have helped us reach this incredible milestone.

A special shout out of congratulations to Fraser Simmonds, who won the Clare Gray award, which was presented by Antonia. She said: “Euan was passionate about supporting and nurturing talent, so it’s a privilege to present the Clare Gray Award for Rising Star. Let’s celebrate the future changemakers who are paving the way for an accessible and inclusive world.”

And finally, everyone at Euan’s Guide wishes massive congratulations to Celia Chartres-Aris who was named as the overall winner of the Disability Power 100 2024, as well as all of the finalists for 2024.

Please keep the momentum of our Safer Toilets campaign going – order your Red Cord Cards today and help Euan’s legacy live on while we continue the fight for safe toilets for everyone.
