Part 2: Island Adventures

In this blog, I wanted to talk a bit about my holiday with my family. On this holiday we decided to explore the west of Scotland further. Of course, finding accessible accommodation is an important part of any holiday for anyone with a physical disability. We stayed in a small cottage near Lochgilphead at a place called Drimvore. The cottage was called Meadowsweet Bungalow and it was very peaceful and quiet. From the cottage we could go and walk along the Crinan Canal which was a lovely walk to do together. We also had access to a woodland walk nearby which is the first place in Scotland where beavers have been bred and released after facing extinction.

The cottage itself sleeps five people. It has a wet floor shower room and an adjustable bed. There is also an Oxford hoist available within the cottage. Each night we were lucky enough to enjoy a log burning fire in the living room, which we all enjoyed.

The cottage also had a portable ramp leading down to the conservatory, which is where we sat on the first day to enjoy a cup of tea as it was raining outside in true Scottish fashion! One day we even managed to have a barbecue on the patio to make the most of the sunshine.

The only downside to the cottage was its thick gravel driveway, which was a challenge to get over to get to the house. The journey was virtually impossible without help.

In my next few blog posts I will tell you about some of the adventures we had while on holiday in the west coast of Scotland, exploring areas such as Oban and Mull. The holiday meant a lot to all of us as it was a chance to spend time together that we don’t often get.
