Purple Tuesday: how we can help you improve your disabled access

The Purple Tuesday logo in purple and white

This year, Purple Tuesday is asking organisations to make one new commitment to improve their accessibility and practice, implement the improvement, and join the global celebrations on Tuesday 7 November.

Here at Euan’s Guide, we’d like to extend this invitation to our community of venues, business and organisations - we’re asking you to commit to talking about your access and update your listing on EuansGuide.com so that disabled people know what to expect when they visit.

Did you know that 58% of disabled people won’t come to your venue if they don’t know what your disabled access is like? According to Purple Tuesday’s website, that means over half of the 1.3 billion disabled people in the world would choose to go somewhere else if there isn’t accessibility information on your website or social media. They also report that 75% of disabled people and their families have walked away from a business because of poor accessibility or customer service.

This is reflected in the data received as part of the Euan’s Guide Access Survey supported by Motability Operations, 91% of respondents try to find disabled access information about a new place before visiting, and 40% do this by checking the website of the place they want to visit.

But, with 76% of 2022 Access Survey respondents telling us they’ve found this information to be misleading, confusing or inaccurate, and 78% said they’ve experienced a disappointing trip or had to change plans because of poor accessibility, there is clearly still a lot of work to be done around disabled access information.

That’s why it’s so important that venues share their disabled access information! Make sure you welcome disabled visitors by sharing your access information on your website and social media, and update your listing on EuansGuide.com for free, where you’ll reach tens of thousands of disabled people looking for great places to go.
