People’s Choice Award – Voting Open

We’ve teamed up with Blue Badge Access Awards to create an award that lets you vote for which venue you would like to see selected as the People’s Choice award winner at the awards ceremony on 7th October. 

The shortlist is made up of the 6 venues who received the most nominations earlier this year. And now it is down to your votes to decide on an overall winner!

Bridge Theatre 

Having opened in 2017, the Bridge Theatre is the first wholly new theatre of scale to be added to London’s commercial theatre sector in 80 years. Members of the theatre’s access list can claim disabled concessionary rate tickets for performances. The theatre offers a captioned performance for all Bridge Theatre productions and, when it is possible, they try to also offer audio described performances.

Cottage in the Dales

These three unique cottages each provide the perfect base for a relaxing break in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The owner’s vision is to provide 'Accessible Luxury'; a premium hospitality experience, at an accessible price, that's accessible to all. The most accessible of the three cottages, the Dairy (sleeps 2), is suitable for assisted and independent wheelchair users, hearing impaired guests and visually impaired guests.

A recent reviewer commented that “The standard and quality of this cottage is outstanding! Every base has been covered... From wheelchairs to hearing loops and so many more too numerous to list… The hosts really do go the extra mile to make sure their guests stay is as carefree and happy as possible.”

G Live

G Live is a state-of-the-art entertainment, conference and hospitality venue located in the heart of Guildford. Performances include live music gigs, comedy, classical music, family shows and dance. They try to offer relaxed performers on longer runs. The main entrance is through automatic doors leading to the Main Foyer, which is all on one level. Lifts available to all floors. Full-price ticket holders can claim a complimentary ticket for an accompanying carer. 

The following is taken from a review on Euan’s Guide: “I visit G Live lots and think it’s a great venue. Brilliant shows and good food… Building is fully wheelchair accessible, lifts to all floors… plenty of well equipped accessible loos on all levels, helpful and accommodating staff.”

Glasgow Airport

Glasgow Airport has over 9 million passengers per year. The airport is dedicated to providing accessibility for people with reduced mobility throughout its facilities at Glasgow Airport. The airport’s compliance team worked with representatives from Promoting A More Inclusive Society (PAMIS) on the design and requirements of their Changing Places facility. They also offer lanyards as a way to discreetly identify individuals with hidden disabilities to airport staff as requiring additional support.

The following review highlights some of the more recent improvements that have been made to Glasgow Airport: “Access for me as a power wheelchair user was first class… This was the biggest improvement for me to see a new Changing Places Toilet at the airport. The beauty about the new toilet, it's situated just inside the main entrance door so visitors meeting friends or family can use it too.”

Scottish National Gallery

The Scottish National Gallery is one of Scotland’s top free visitor attractions. There are ramps available at both the front of the Gallery and rear of the Academy buildings. At the Gallery, a member of staff will open the door for visitors; at the Academy, there is a bell to ring. Many staff have received general equality awareness training, and Information Desk staff have also undergone deaf awareness training.

Table Mountain Cableway

Based in South Africa, Table Mountain Cableway has been providing people with an easier way to reach the summit of the Cape Town mountain since it first opened in 1929. The Cableway makes every effort to ensure that the experience is accessible for all visitors. For wheelchair users, this includes the use of ramps and elevators at the Lower Cable Station and paved pathways and a wheelchair route map for when they reach the summit of Table Mountain.
