A big thank you and welcome to new reviewers
A big thank you to our new reviewers
We have been thrilled to receive disabled access reviews and welcome people who are new to Euan’s Guide over the past few months. The whole team is really excited to see that new people are getting involved in our work to make the world a more accessible place.
We would like to say a big welcome and thank you to everyone who has joined us recently, it's great to have you on board! We want to celebrate your achievements as new reviewers and showcase some of your reviews and highlight what makes them brilliant.
New reviews
One of our first reviews comes from Brother_Yonten and his family when they visited the Galloway Forest Park. This review particularly highlights the helpfulness of the staff. “Your professionalism and caring nature shone through as soon as we came into the centre doors.”
It is helpful for others reading your review to know how the staff helped on your visit as they know what to expect if they visit in the future. This review also contains some interesting photographs which show the surroundings of Galloway Forest. Photographs always really help to add detail to your review as it gives a visual description of the place you are visiting. For example, it might be helpful to highlight what the pathways are like or what an accessible toilet looks like inside.
An excellent five star review came from Fiona Sherret who took part in a River Time Boat cruise with her son and family on part of the River Thames. This review is particularly helpful as Fiona has filled in each section of information. The more information you can share with the new review the more helpful it will be to anyone reading it for the first time. It also helps to explain the number of stars that you have given any section. Fiona has given a really good overview of what the trip was like for her family. "Our son has complex needs and we found the trip to be a calming multi-sensory experience with the gentle hum of the engine, the sparkling water and the cool breeze all beneficial for him."
Fiona went on to add more information into each section of the review including talking about the accessible toilets. She also spoke about how helpful the staff were. "Skipper Lucy and her team of volunteers go out of their way to make the whole experience inclusive and comfortable." She added a comment under additional information at the bottom of the review: "Recommend Riverside Boat Trust without hesitation and would definitely go again." Each piece of additional information gives the person reading the review a better understanding of what is available and what the trip is like at the moment information they have the more likely they are to try it for themselves.
Rivertime accessible boat trip
Another awesome review came in from Shawbeckside who told us about a stay at Crathie Opportunity Holidays. The title of the review is 'chill out and relax at Crathie!'. The title of any review really catches the eye of the person reading it and helps them to understand more about it. If you can give you a review a catchy title then someone reading it for the first time is drawn to find out more about it and is ready to read more about your experiences.
Different ways to leave a review
A fantastic video review was sent to us by Kenblackburn58 who visited Newby Hall with his family and had a great accessible day out. In his review, Ken took his all terrain wheelchair around the grounds to give us a clear view of what the access was like. His family even took a trip on the steam railway. This review shows one of the many different ways that you can leave a review. Perhaps you’re not a fan of writing things down or you prefer to show things in pictures? You can review places in a way that suits you! We also have easy read review forms that we can send out to reviewers if this is a more accessible way to submit your review. It’s really up to you.
Why are reviews so important?
When you submit a review, you are helping other disabled people to find out about places that they perhaps weren’t aware of before. People tell us that reading reviews gives them the confidence to go and visit somewhere new for the first time. Each time you submit a review, we will send your review back to the place that you have visited so that they are aware of your experience too. When a venue receives a review, they get the opportunity to learn more about how to become more accessible and also find out more about Euan’s Guide. By writing a review you really are helping to make the world a more accessible place!
Help writing a review
Perhaps you’re interested in getting involved in reviewing but don’t know where to start? Don’t panic! We can help you to get started reviewing either on a one to one basis or you could join a group workshop to learn how to get started and what makes a good review. To find out more about this you can contact us at hello@euansguide.com and we will be happy to help.
Other ways to get involved
There are many other ways that you can get involved with our work. You could share your thoughts on disabled access in our 2022 Access Survey or order some Red Cord Cards and help us make more accessible toilets safer. However you decide to get involved we would like to say thank you, and we look forward to helping you to discover more about our charity.
