Created in 1992, International Day of Persons with Disabilities aims to raise awareness of the issues faced by disabled people across the world.
“On this day in which we remind ourselves of the situation of persons with disabilities around the globe, it is important, first of all, to resist the temptation to think in terms of ‘us’ and ‘them’.” Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organisation, continues “Instead we must remind ourselves that disability is part of the human condition: all of us either are or will become disabled to one degree or another during the course of our lives.’

We've taken a look at what is happening online today:

UNICEF have written a blog on how technology can transform the lives of people with disabilities: ‘technology that is harnessed to promote inclusion and accessibility can help realize the full and equal participation of children and adults with disabilities. Technology can be a tool for fulfilling rights and changing lives.’

Mencap have posted a guest blog by one their Young Ambassadors, Katie, about what it is like to live with a rare genetic disorder entitled: ‘We are equal with or without a disability’.

Capability Scotland have written an article looking at the range of different devices and apps have been created to help to make the technological world more of an accessible space for disabled people.

Scope are celebrating by talking to some of their online community members who have been brought together by technology.

Barclays have announced a trial of beacon technology to help customers with accessibility requirements. We're also off to Barclays for their comedy night and live podcast recording with Abnormally Funny People!
