Funday at Lochore Meadows

What a fabulous day we had at Lochore Meadows in Fife on the 26th of July. Just look at those photos - they say it all! PAMIS, Sense Scotland and RNIB had joined forces to put on a Family Fun Day for children and adults with learning disabilities / complex needs / sensory impairments.

There was something for everyone. We had adapted sailing, adapted bikes, face painting, a bouncy castle (thankfully the adults behaved well!), sensory treasure hunt, crafts, music, reflexology taster sessions and wheelchair accessible walks, and a truly amazing sensory room put together by RNIB just for the day. The sun shone until the thunderstorm at 3pm (just as we were packing up but even that was fun). Everyone enjoyed the day.

Children and adults with very profound disabilities were able to try adapted sailing; the volunteers from Saliability are terrific. The adapted bikes were as popular as ever. Quest 88 and Lochore provided some truly amazing bikes, some of which are wheelchair accessible. Andrew from Quest88 is the man to speak with if you are thinking of getting an adapted bike.

If you want to organise a day that is accessible Lochore comes highly recommended. The park is beautiful and the Outdoor Instructors and park centre staff could not be more helpful. The outdoor centre has a mobile and hydraulic hoist for getting on and off the bikes / sail boats and the centre has that all important Changing Place.

And after all that exercise there is an accessible café for much needed refreshments.

This was our third annual fun day at Lochore Meadows. We will be back next year for more!
