Film Club for deaf and hard of hearing audiences launched

Glasgow Film Theatre, together with Film Hub Scotland and Solar Bear, are about to launch a monthly Film Club for deaf and hard of hearing audiences. This new programme includes subtitled, captioned and British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted screenings throughout the year.

This is the first club of its kind in Scotland and it is great to see that cinemas are screening different types of accessible performances which opens their cinemas to new audiences.

Jaki McDougall, Chief Executive of Glasgow Film, commented:

This new programme will bring more awareness to cinema access for the deaf and hard of hearing community - addressing issues such as more suitable film screening times, deaf and hard of hearing awareness training for staff and looking at ways we can enrich the overall cinema experience.

The first screening will be a captioned screening of Foxcatcher on Tuesday the 24th of March. There will be a BSL interpreted introduction by the team behind the Film Club who will talk about future plans for the Club. All tickets are £5 and the cinema has a hearing loop system and infrared sound facility.

The Film Club is supported by Creative Scotland, Solar Bear and Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI's Film Audience Network.
