Springtime is a colourful, fragrant season and a time when farmyards spring back into action after a long cold winter. Where better to stay then, than a bright and airy farm cottage? There are countless cottages, lodges and private accommodation on Euan’s Guide with ceiling hoists, accessible bathrooms, level access and just about all the things you could need to enjoy a spring getaway! But this year, we’re seeking out cottages in the countryside where you can experience life a little closer to the farm.

Brackenborough Hall Coach House, Louth

A little grander than a cottage, Brakenborough Hall Coach House in Lincolnshire is an 18th century coach house sitting amidst an 800-acre farm with three self-catered apartments open to guests. The charmingly decorated rooms are fitted with characterful period features, and one apartment is all on the ground-floor. The Stables apartment is step-free with a wet floor shower, and all guests to the coach house can enjoy the surrounding gardens with a barbecue, farm and playground. Look out for badgers!

If you enjoy fishing, Blagdon Farm’s luxury lodges surround a 1.5-acre fishing lake in the leafy, Devon countryside! Each lodge has a roll-in wet room, extra wide doorways and ramped access to the south-facing porches. The porches have outdoor electric sockets to charge your wheelchair, and there is hoist access to the swimming pool.

If you’re going on holiday with a few extra family members in tow – such as a playful dog, and maybe even a friendly horse – Hoe Grange Holidays on the edge of the Peak District will welcome you all with open arms! Belonging to David and Felicity, this 250-acre beef and sheep farm has four eco-friendly luxury lodges; and you’re encouraged to don a pair of wellies to help out with feeding the chickens and the horses. The New Calf Shed, Salisbury

Who said a calf shed couldn’t be stylish? The New Calf Shed is a beautiful glass fronted barn conversion located on the organic Manor Farm in Sutton Mandeville, and is a stunning example of accessibility ‘without compromising on style and aesthetics’. The studio-style barn has a large terrace with a barbecue and a ramp down to the lawn for those light spring evenings!

Looking for a holiday in Dorset? Blackrow Farm Barns are eco-friendly, comfortable conversions in Sturminster Newton! Dutch Barn is supplied by solar heating and harvests rainwater, and it also includes a hearing loop for guests. From the natural wood and stone fitted rooms, you can relax while watching deer, pheasants and foxes outside. Dairy Cottage was once a pig sty, transformed into a luxury space to unwind on holiday with sensitive lighting, old beams and rise and fall sink and hobs in the kitchen.

You can even collect you own eggs from the farm’s chickens!
