Bloody Scotland

Bloody Scotland is firmly established in the literary calendar. The crime writing festival in Stirling, Scotland, is now in its third year and it has gone from strength to strength. This year’s line-up boasts the likes of Ian Rankin, Christopher Brookmyre, Alex Gray and even Tony Parsons! There are a wide range of events for crime fiction fans to choose from including author talks and book signings, a courtroom play and a forensics demonstration, as well as events for aspiring writers such as a masterclass with Christopher Brookmyre and a chance to pitch your ideas for a crime novel to a panel of publishers.

Deanston Scottish Crime Book of the Year Award

One of the highlights of the festival is the announcement of the ‘Deanston Scottish Crime Book of the Year Award’. On the shortlist for the prize this year are:

• Flesh Wounds by Chris Brookmyre
• The Amber Fury by Natalie Haynes
• Falling Fast by Neil Broadfoot
• Entry Island by Peter May
• A Lovely Way To Burn by Louise Welsh
• In The Rosary Garden by Nicola White

Accessibility

The festival offers a free BSL interpreter at all of its events, if required, although you must request this service by the 1st of September. The Albert Halls and Stirling Castle are being used as venues for the festival and both venues are listed on Euan’s Guide. Transport

Bloody Scotland have informed us that it is easy to get to the festival:

All venues are easily accessible by transport. There is a limited amount of parking at each venue if visitors are bringing their own transport. We would recommend arriving early to avoid disappointment. If anyone wants to take a taxi to the venues there is a taxi rank directly outside the station and taxi companies in Stirling who will provide taxis with wheelchair accessibility.
