It’s British Food Fortnight, two weeks dedicated to celebrating the best of British food. Rather than just focus on British cuisine we thought we’d use this opportunity to highlight a selection of restaurants and cafés from across Britain that come highly recommended. From classic Welsh dishes to Mediterranean flavours, the wide range of food available is part of what we love about eating out here in Britain. Take a look at our selection of a few of the highly rated eateries that Euan's Guide reviewers have visited so far this year:

The Press Kitchen, York

Go here for: A great atmosphere

The Press Kitchen serves modern British cuisine with a continental touch and the staff are great at adapting the menu as Hollie_Morrison discovered during her visit. The restaurant has a ramp at the entrance and there is a mix of regular and bar tables with plenty of space to move around. Hollie_Morrison said “the food was amazing” in her review, she added that she received “great service” and that she had “zero accessibility issues”. Read Hollie_Morrison’s review.

Snails Deli, Cardiff

Go here for: Welsh rarebit

Staff at this café make you feel welcome and are more than happy to assist. A temporary ramp is available for those who require it and you can call ahead to book an accessible table. PolaGrzybowsk left a review saying it was a “mega fresh café” with the “BEST Welsh rarebit ever” – high praise indeed! Read PolaGrzybowsk’s review.

Go here for: Greek tapas

Share dishes from the Greek-Cypriot inspired menu in this chilled-out restaurant. Mickman commented on the ”good range of different dishes on the menu” and particularly enjoyed “some lovely grilled dishes which are an absolute treat”. Transport links may not be the best and there is a small lip at the entrance to this restaurant but once inside it is “easy to move around” and “staff are very attentive”. Read mickman’s review.

The Chalet Tearooms & Restaurant, Keswick

Go here for: Tasty treats

As Actif8ed wrote in their review “The Chalet Tearoom / Restaurant is wheelchair accessible, with a large wheelchair accessible toilet, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.” Of course, it also helps that the cakes are “delicious”! Don’t be deceived by the step at one of the two entrances, the other entrance is step free and the tearoom is all on the one level.

Dogs are well catered for here with towels, dog biscuits and water bowls all available. Read Actif8ed’s review.

This busy restaurant and wine bar has built up a good reputation with locals thanks to their freshly cooked food and friendly staff. M_M_D was not disappointed when she visited with her husband for a “lovely lunch and drinks”. Mostly on one level, this restaurant is also conveniently located with good transport links. Go here for: Pre-theatre meal

Aster is conveniently located for anyone going to Victoria Palace Theatre. Sarah gave it a 5-star review and said “The food was delicious. I would definitely recommend Aster.” It might be best to arrive early to avoid the rush and Sarah recommends booking in advance if you require a table with level access. Read Sarah’s review.

If you are looking for a taste of Italy in the Scottish capital, then this restaurant has a couple of glowing reviews. Don’t be put off by the venue’s central location and the restaurant’s small size, reviewer JAttenborough commented how “it is a very small restaurant but it was still easy for us all to access” when he visited with a group of friends.
