A Romantic Day in Edinburgh

Following on from our Valentine's Day London Lowdown, we've also put together some accessible recommendations for Valentine's Day north of the border...

If you're looking for a luxurious night away from it all then think about the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa. The hotel also features an award winning spa, OneSpa that has recently added a hoist for their swimming pool. As well as featuring accessible accommodation, there is also an accessible restaurant, OneSquare, that is offering a delicious Valentine's Menu full of Scottish produce for £89 per couple which also includes a bottle of Prosecco.

Delicious dining options abound in Edinburgh and three of our hot recommendations are Castle Terrace, the Tower Restaurant and the Forth Floor at Harvey Nichols.

The Forth Floor at Harvey Nichols is pulling out all the stops to ensure diners have a fabulous evening. You'll have a bird's eye view of Bruce Munro's new Field of Light installation in St Andrew Square and listen to live jazz. There are two options, the Brasserie's Valentine's Prix Fixe menu at £40 per person or the more decadent dining of the Restaurant with a set menu at £70 per person. Access to the Forth Floor is via the lift in the Multrees Walk entrance.

There's always something going on in Edinburgh and Valentine's day is now exception! The Usher Hall has certainly been hit with Cupid's arrow. They are featuring Romantic Valentine's Classics performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO). Puccini and Verdi feature as you relive some of the greatest love stories ever told. Across town, the King's Theatre is the setting for Buddy - The Buddy Holly Musical as the West End sensation is brought to Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Zoo is getting into the spirit of things and offering different dinner packages with the "Just the Two of Us" package including exclusive access to an after-hours private drinks reception at the new Koala enclosure. The dinner itself will take place in the accessible Mansion House with guests entering the Zoo from the Members' Gate. If you require vehicular access to the Mansion House this can be arranged. The zoo is not often thought of as an accessible venue due to its relatively steep surroundings but they do have a recommended access route which highlights the easiest viewing areas. In addition to this they offer free manual wheelchair loan and in January this year they gained a new disabled access vehicle. Edinburgh Zoo - accessible or just too steep? If your loved one loves chocolate then look no further than the Vaults in Leith. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is once again hosting its Chocolate & Whisky Tasting. You'll enjoy a candlelight supper with a selection of 5 single cask single malt drams and hand crafted chocolates chosen just for you by a Society ambassador and a local chocolatier. Their Queen Street venue is also accessible and is running a Champagne & Choclate Tasting. For movie buffs amongst you, what could be better than heading to the Drive In to watch Top Gun? With a live action back drop of Edinburgh airport, you'll be able to watch Tom Cruise on a 100m outdoor movie screen, which it is claimed is the biggest in the world. They'll also be refreshments on site to complete the experience. There will be accessible toilets on site and a designated area for disabled parking which you should book in advance by contacting the organisers Itison.
